HERACLES AND ZEUS

£950.00

The centerpiece of this necklace is a 1.75 cm Ancient Greek silver coin featuring the profile of Heracles, known as Hercules to the Romans. God of strength and heroes, this inimitable conqueror battled many monsters in his day, beginning with strangling two serpents sent to attack him when he was just a babe in the crib. ✦

We love this piece for Heracles’ gorgeous ancient profile, wrapped snuggly in his trademark cloak, fashioned from the skin of the Nimean lion which he, of course, slayed himself and wore as protection.

On the reverse we see Zeus (king of the Gods and Heracles’ father) seated and holding two symbols of his divine power, a scepter and an eagle.

A personal treasure embedded with history, each ancient coin is imprinted by ancient hands with a rich symbolic language of gods, goddesses, and mythical creatures. This coin was minted in Ancient Greece in the 4th century BC, struck over two thousand years ago and set in gold to be worn by you today.
